But don't just settle for the summaries. Each chapter is filled with wisdom from Suzanne's life and her interactions with people from all walks of life in all the places of the Enneagram. I found her section in each chapter, "Limitations in Relationships" to be particularly instructive.The best book on the Enneagram and Relationships! As a therapist, I use the Enneagram as a tool in my private practice. I have seen positive changes in my client’s lives and their relationships. I recommend this book to my clients often. I also recommend it to my friends and family.Suzanne Stabile gives us understandable, in-depth information about how we all see the world differently, react to the world differently and how this effects our relationships with others in our world.She opens the door to her wisdom of the enneagram providing us with insight about how each specific number typically behaves in relationships along with having an understanding as to how and why others respond to us in relationships.This book gives specific information on how each number can best get along with each other. The end of each chapter has bullet points on steps we can take to better ourselves and thus our relationships, along with things to keep in mind when relating to someone of a specific number.Suzanne Stabile’s “The Path between Us” is a great book for everyone to read. Some people flip houses. This book will flip your life. Last week I was sitting outside a coffee shop reading a book on my kindle when a youngish guy walked by carrying a coffee and a computer, looking for a place to sit.Since all of the tables were occupied and he was looking a bit displaced, I offered him a seat at my table. Relieved, he sat down and expressed his gratitude. I promptly went back to my reading but I could feel his eyes boring into me as I anticipated the dreaded question."What are you reading?" he finally blurted.Now I know this is neither a profound nor earth-shattering inquiry but there were two problems at hand here.One, I'm terrible at summarizing books. Just awful. (Which you're about to discover.) There's just something about the vast amount of information that I'm pressured to wrap into one or two sentences that completely overwhelms and paralyzes me.And two, I was reading a book about shame and vulnerability. Which ironically, I was ashamed to admit for fear of being vulnerable. It's about shame and vulnerability and how shame can truly only dissipate by allowing yourself to be vulnerable", I quickly blurted.Allowing myself to be vulnerable led Patrick and I into a conversation for the next hour. Patrick, if you're reading this, c'était une joie pour vous rencontrer. (If this is wrong I blame Google translate.)This moment of unabashed vulnerability with Patrick was the beginning of a major shift in my life. And I have Daring Greatly to thank for that.*I've always been one to be honest and open but Brene Brown's writing in Daring Greatly takes openness to another level.She reinforces what I've known all along but been afraid of admitting--that vulnerability leads to happiness. Or as Brown calls it, "wholeheartedness".And I, and maybe you too, could damn well use some wholeheartedness in my life.We're living in a culture of `never enough'. I'm certainly feeling it. Are you? I never work hard enough, I don't help others enough, I'm not successful enough, I don't eat healthy enough... and on and on.These thoughts of `never enough' turn into feelings of shame and fear. How do we combat shame and fear? By being vulnerable and expressing gratitude, according to Brené Brown. This book was life changing for me. I'd already read Gifts of Imperfection, and have been struggling with having healthy boundaries with a psychologically unhealthy parent.This book did an amazing job of helping me understand the difference between sharing vulnerability in ways that lead to connection and over-sharing in ways intended to manipulate an audience - and why that oversharing has always led to disconnection.For the men out there - I'd recommend starting with this book (rather than gifts of imperfection) as Brown broadens her research to include men here. And I really liked the way this book works through so many interesting topics and challenging scenarios.One of my favorite parts is on professing love vs practicing love (below). It made me appreciate that when someone tells me they love me, then treats me badly, that it isn't really love at all.During a recent radio interview about my research, the hosts (my friends Ian and Margery) asked me, “Can you love someone and cheat on them or treat them poorly?”I didn’t have much time, so I gave the best answer I could based on my work: “I don’t know if you can love someone and betray them or be cruel to them, but I do know that when you betray someone or behave in an unkind way toward them, you are not practicing love. And, for me, I don’t just want someone who says they love me, I want someone who practices that love for me every day.”

Enjoyable narration, if a little flat. I've been in technology for 20 + years and I'm not sure who the audience for this book is. It's not for anybody that's in tune with the tech landscape in the past or the changes we're undergoing now as it's a bit of a hodge-podge high-level think piece on various mega-trends, most of which have been explored in isolation in other business book bestsellers over the last five years.My overall takeaway from the book:- Pay attention to the tech trends --Quantum computing, AI, A/R and V/R- The future will require deep empathy and strong organizational cultures- Multi-national companies in a global economy need to invest in a sustainable social contract in the markets they serveIn the same realm, Thomas Friedman's, "Thank You for Being Late" covers the same general ground and is much more compelling and insightful.

boy am I disappointed I've been a huge fan of RBG and was looking forward to a thorough account and analysis of her life, career, and achievements. But this just isn't it.Sure it glosses over some major legal milestones, but it spends as much time on her workouts, wardrobe, baby pictures, etc. It contains a mere 200 sparsely printed but amply (and beautifully) illustrated pages, and really offers little other than coffee table amusement to any normal adult. I'm planning on either donating this to my son's middleschool library or gift it to a progressive minded pre-teen girl; that's the audience this book is pitched at.My fault, I guess. It's a lesson learned in online shopping; I should have gone to a physical bookstore to browse before buying.Giving 2 stars because it may be good for the right audience, i.e., inspiring pre-teens to the idea of public service.Designed by "#millennial" women, inspiring for anyone I don't think someone from my generation would have the imagination to design a book this way, or to include a photo feature about a Supreme Court Justice's "swag." But fundamentally this is a wonderful book about the difference an individual can make. The book's breezy style has a deeper and more serious significance, as well.I was touched by many things in this book, not only the courage of Justice Ginsburg's opinions, or the loving handwritten note from her dying husband, but even by the photos illustrating her close friendship with Justice Scalia, one of her ideological opposites - it's rare to see such a mensh in these times. The format is terrifically creative for this sort of subject: the NY Times reviewer aptly described it as being "as if a scrapbook and the Talmud decided to have a baby." The latter comes in especially for the way the book's margins are used for commenting on everything -- not just for the obvious connections to a Justice who is Jewish. (Apropos of that, though, one thing did puzzle me: the recipe for pork in milk at the back. Breaking two of the Jewish religion's food taboos at once -- isn't that a little gangsta? Was that the idea, or is the whole thing a joke? And actually, one other thing: the publisher's subject classification on the back cover is "Fiction." Aside from the recipe, I hope not.)I now live in Japan and teach comparative constitutional law there. Pretty much no one, including most law professors, can name the justices of the Japan Supreme Court, who are chosen for their anonymity, their conformity to a certain social background, and their timidity of thought. And throughout its nearly 70-year existence, the JSC has always upheld laws and regulations that limit civil rights. One reason I got this book was to be able to show my students how completely different the relationship between a country's Supreme Court and its citizens can be. In most countries of the world, a book like this would be inconceivable. While I'm not saying that many other Justices deserve such a tribute, this book should be a great reminder for Americans how lucky you are not only to have Justice Ginsburg, but also to be capable of such affectionate engagement with your government.I was disappointed as I wanted to read about why she is ... I was disappointed as I wanted to read about why she is the woman she is, not a laundry list of her achievements. It was written in a very simple style with no challenging ideas, and no concepts that made me actually made consider the difficulties involved in her decision making.I read about half of it and put it away, as I lost interest in what seemed like a love story about how much we should adore RBG. I already adore her and her ideals and did not want to read a litany of her life anecdotes. My life had more challenges and reading about hers came off as boring. Sorry, I wanted to love this book, but couldn't.
